Parshat Vayeshev

This week’s Parasha is Parashat Vayeshev đź“–

Yosef was extremely handsome and caught the eye of Potiphar’s wife. She tried everything to entice him in every way possible to “lie” with her.

And then there came a day, where the kingdom was marking a festival and all the people went to their temple to celebrate. Potiphar’s wife saw this as an opportunity and hung back. She would finally seduce Yosef! After years of resisting, Yosef cracked, but suddenly he saw a vision of his father, Yaakov appear before him.

The Midrash says Yosef saw the image of his father looking at him as if through a window.

Why a window? What does that represent?

From a room in a house, a room in a hall, whatever event or situation you are in, you can look through the window and you can see a world outside. There is a BIG world beyond the room.

So why did he see Yaakov through a window? Because Yaakov was conveying a message to Yosef, that this moment, the feelings in this moment, are incredibly intense but don’t destroy the rest of your life, in this world AND in Olam HaBa, by the fleeting intensity of a single moment. You have so much to live for! Look through the window, there is a whole world beyond this moment, don’t give in to sin!

Gam Ze Yaavo. This too shall pass.

We need to realize that we are all on a stage called life. The world stays the same but the actors change. We each have a role and scene to play and as actors do, we all play our parts to the best of their abilities.

Your hardship, anxiety, brokenness, struggles, your own feelings, they are real, but they are also temporary. We just need to ride the wave and come out on the other end. The purpose of this world IS the challenges and the more you trust Hashem the less broken you will become by the hardships of life.

Life isn’t happening TO you, it is happening FOR you! To grow as a person and grow into the best form of yourself you can be.
