This week’s Parasha is Parashat Chayei Sarah 📖
Rashi explains that all the years of Sarah’s life were equally good. How could the years of Sarah Imanus’ life be equally good? Did she not have feelings? Good years and bad years? How are forty years of infertility and then becoming a mother all equally good? The day Yishmael was born and the day Yitzchak was born, these were both equally as good? How did Sarah, apparently, live a “good” life when she went through so much pain?
Because Sarah made a decision! She truly believed, with every fiber of her being in Hashem. She knew that good ONLY comes from HaKadosh Baruch Hu.
This world is compared to darkness, because it’s confusing and doesn’t make sense. When we will go to Olam Haba we will gain clarity. We will look at all the bumps we had along our journey and we will rejoice.
Sarah had a choice, she could wait to dance in Olam Haba, or she could make the most of every moment here in Olam HaZeh. This world IS the corridor to Olam Haba. We must remember nothing is permanent.
Sarah’s entire life was equal. So are we saying the chessed she did at eighteen was on the same level as when she was thirty five? Seventy? The brachot she made with the same kavanah throughout her whole life? Her love for Hashem, her Avodat Hashem, they were never elevated and were identical in her young age then her older years? If it was all identical, why bother growing?
We learn from here a deep truth about life. That Hashem isn’t only interested in results Hashem wants us to dedicate our heart and our desire to his service. We, as human beings, can’t guarantee an outcome, we can only do our best. To live in the Hashem’s ways. Sarah’s Avodat Hashem, her Kavanah, were all elevated over her years. But her determination to live by Hashem’s will, that never changed. Every year of her life she lived as an Eved Hashem, to do His will.
We need to do the best we can with the tools we have. Generations later, we have inherited Sarah’s DNA, which means each one of us has the same capacity to connect, entwine ourselves in Hashem’s will and live as Avdei Hashem.
